오빠, 언니, 누나, 형

Four words replace every name you'll ever use.

Penjelasan ini dalam bahasa Inggris. Kalimat Korea dan artinya mengikuti bahasamu.

A girl calls an older male 오빠, an older female 언니. A boy calls an older male 형, an older female 누나. Younger people are just 동생 (or 이름).

These words create instant hierarchy and instant warmth. Calling your waiter 오빠? No — service workers get 손님 (customer). Family words have boundaries.

Even coworkers use 팀장님, 부장님 (team leader, director) — title-first culture. Names come with 님 attached: 지은님, 태호님.
